Flight trials with UAVs
It is well known that to fly beyond the pilot’s line of sight, drones must meet very stringent safety and technological requirements to obtain operational authorization from the relevant authorities. The Songbird 150 by Horus Technologies S.r.l. has obtained operational authorization from ENAC to perform BVLOS flights in complete autonomy and safety.
The Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) has authorized Horus Technologies, as a UAS operator, to conduct flights beyond line of sight at two sites in Italy:
- “Marcello Allotta” Airport – Grottaglie (Taranto)
- “AvioCaipoli” Airfield – Gallicano nel Lazio (Roma)
Additionally, the Italian Ministry of Defense has granted Horus the Technical Clearance to fly in military-use Restricted Areas.
The flight crew consists of qualified observers and pilots with specific BVLOS flight ratings, certified by both ENAC and EASA, and capable of handling STS (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) scenarios for flight planning and risk management.
Thanks to its operational authorization for BVLOS flights, Horus is able to perform flights beyond the operator’s line of sight for various important missions, such as:
- Cargo transport to remote locations
- Medicine delivery to high-risk areas
- Environmental monitoring
- Remote infrastructure inspections
- Reconnaissance flights
- Search and rescue
Furthermore, it is open to conducting flight trials on behalf of third-party companies, as well as training their flight teams, both at AvioCaipoli in Gallicano nel Lazio (Roma)and at Grottaglie Airport (Taranto).
