The on-air jammer test is a fundamental step in assessing the real operational performance of an RF jamming system.

Laboratory On-Air Jammer Testing: The Traditional Approach

Verification in a controlled environment is performed using calibrated RF instrumentation, allowing precise analysis of the system’s electrical and spectral parameters. The goal is to confirm that the frequency jammer complies with the manufacturer’s declared specifications.

The main advantage is high data repeatability: environmental conditions are stable and results can be compared over time. However, laboratory testing does not reproduce real signal propagation conditions.

To perform these tests, specialized facilities are required, such as an anechoic chamber and highly advanced laboratory instrumentation. These infrastructures are extremely costly and cannot realistically be deployed in operational theatres, where jammers are actually used and require continuous checks.

On-Air Jammer Testing in Operational Theatre: The Innovative Approach

With the Jammer Tester SETH, Horus Technologies has introduced an optional “On Air” function available on request.

An on-air test evaluates the system during real transmission in an unshielded environment. In this mode, both jamming effectiveness and all parameters measurable via cable are assessed, along with additional measurements on one of the most critical components: the antennas.

The result is a complete and realistic snapshot of the jammer’s condition and performance.

Horus Technologies has developed a dedicated kit consisting of:

This allows the SETH with the “On Air” kit to be installed directly in the operational theatre, for example inside a compound where vehicles equipped with jammers can stop and test their systems in seconds (GO / NO-GO) before deploying on mission.

This approach dramatically reduces testing costs and enables any base or infrastructure to be equipped with the kit, since the Jammer Tester SETH integrates all laboratory instrumentation into a rugged medium-size suitcase.
