The Songibird can be equipped with a tactical mobile communications monitoring control system.
Thanks to SDR (Software Defined Radio) technology, it is possible to install, in the load compartment of the Songbird 150, one 2-channel SDR module capable of communicating in any network: GSM, UMTS or LTE. It creates a fake BTS (Node) with operating parameters such that the mobile devices in the area connect to it.

The system is designed to collect the basic identities (IMSI, IMEI) of mobile phones in the work area, regardless of the mobile standard.
When the mobile phone tries to register with the node, it reveals the IMSI and IMEI, as well as some detailed information on its communication capabilities.
As soon as the required information is collected by the catcher unit, the mobile phone can be released to the provider’s network or passed under the control of an active monitoring system to collect other information such as voice calls, SMS and packet data.

In addition to investigations and intelligence activities, the catcher system can be usefully used to identify and locate missing persons whose cell phones are still on, regardless of whether they are connected to the mobile phone network.
In fact, the system is able to detect mobile users and, through a Direction Finder, to provide the exact location of the missing person.
